Design Philosophy
The Caruso loudspeaker range embraces a two-way bookshelf speaker and a three-way floor-standing speaker with bass reflex system. The cabinets’ sophisticated design endows them with enormous strength and rigidity. The substantial baffles completely cover the drive unit baskets by means of precisely calculated annular aluminium mounts. This design ensures efficient diffusion of the sound from the baffle, and optimises the speakers’ dispersion characteristics in the crossover range between the bass and mid-range units, and between the midrange driver and dome tweeter.
At the development stage we entirely avoided sharp edges and disruptive screws, with the result that the sound spreads out and detaches itself from the speaker, without causing reflections. Viewed overall, the narrow baffles not only underline the speakers’ elegant appearance, but also aids their dispersion characteristics and spatial qualities. The drive units are an ultra modern development, and are matched perfectly to the cabinets and their individual purpose. Crucial features include large magnets with enormous force fields, special coils with high power ratings, unique surrounds and spiders with extremely large travel. The diaphragms consist of various materials (carbon, fibres, cellulose), and are cast, pressed and air-dried. This manufacturing process produces great stiffness and torsional strength, as well as very high internal damping, which avoids partial vibration and resonance effects. The crossover units are assembled using very high-quality components with minimal losses and very close tolerances, and are calculated to provide optimum interaction between the drive units, and ensure perfect phase and frequency response.
